10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever!
Hi everyone, it's Nancy with your Wednesday edition of our daily walk. Pastor Mike took us to Psalm 90 this past Sunday and gave us four challenges from that psalm. Remember you are human. Remember death. Remember God. Remember to live. Those four challenges were bouncing around in my mind that afternoon as I continued working through the study of Proverbs, the way of wisdom, that several of our women's groups are studying this summer. We began that study by identifying that cultivating godly wisdom begins with having a fear of God, an awe, a reverence for him. To take time in the busyness of our days to reflect on his power, his greatness, his goodness, his majesty, his everlasting love and faithfulness to his children, his judgment, his commands, and as many of the Psalms tell us, to think about his eternal reign over all the earth and his desire to reign in our lives. I'm reminded of Psalm 46.10. Be still and know that I am God. As all these thoughts have been weaving together in my mind, I asked a familiar question, so what? So what does this mean for me? So what will I do with the truth God is showing me? Recently we looked at Psalm 100 that tells us of the Lord's faithfulness to his people, and we read Psalm 103 that celebrates his great mercy. This morning I want us to turn to Psalm 111, which I think is another perfect guide to this challenge to be still and reverently reflect on God, to remember, to celebrate, and to share with others. So I invite you to be still and listen with your mind and heart as I share God's word. Praise the Lord. I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them. Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered. The Lord is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear him. He remembers his covenant forever. He has shown his people the power of his works in giving them the inheritance of the nations. The work of his hands are faithful and just. All his precepts are trustworthy. They are established forever and ever to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. He sent redemption to his people. He has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. All those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever. Amen.
